MIIT: China’s telecommunications business revenue in Q1 totaled 360.1 billion RMB

According to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on April 22, China's telecommunications business revenues in the first quarter of this year totaled 360.1 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.5%, and the growth rate increased by 4.7 percentage points year-on-year and 2.9 percentage points higher than the end of the previous year. The total telecommunications business calculated at the constant price of the previous year was 384.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 27.4%.

Among the telecom business income, data and Internet business income grew steadily. In the first quarter, the three basic telecommunications companies completed fixed data and Internet business revenue of 62.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.6%, accounting for 17.4% of the telecommunications business revenue, and the proportion increased by 0.5 percentage points year-on-year, driving a telecommunications business revenue growth of 1.6 percentage point. Completed mobile data and Internet business revenue of 159.1 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.5%, reversing the negative growth trend in the first two months, accounting for 44.2% of telecom business revenue.

The data shows that fixed and mobile voice services are steadily declining. From January to March, the three basic telecommunications companies completed 5.87 billion yuan and 28.78 billion yuan in revenue from fixed voice and mobile voice services, a year-on-year decrease of 2.5% and a year-on-year increase of 1.3%, accounting for 9.6% of the total revenue from telecommunications services, and the proportion decreased year-on-year 0.6 percentage point.

At the same time, revenue from emerging businesses continued to grow rapidly. The three basic telecommunications companies are actively developing emerging services such as IPTV, Internet data centers, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. In the first quarter, they completed 55.7 billion yuan in business revenue, a year-on-year increase of 27.2%, and accounted for 15.5% of telecommunications business revenue.
